![]() Morgan State University has placed the Alpha Iota chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi on disciplinary probation after reports appeared that they rejected an interested gentlemen because of his sexual orientation. Senior business administration major and former intern Brian Stewart filed a complaint against the chapter back in October after he was denied entry into the 103 year old fraternity because of his sexual orientation. "I had heard stuff about them calling me derogatory names, considering my sexuality as a factor," said Stewart in October. "I had gotten calls from within the chapter telling me that it's going to be impossible for me to join." A University spokesman stated that after investigation, it was found that the organization did violate university policies on discrimination. “It’s very rare to get a complaint like this from students against other students,” Carter said. “It’s not something that the university tolerates or takes lightly.” - Jarret Carter Sr, University Spokesperson My heart goes out to this young man and any other LGBT members that has been discriminated against because of who or what they chose to do in their personal lives. It's amazing how far we've come, but it's shocking to find out how far we still have to go. Society bashes "DL" persons and advocates for the "outting" of closeted people in a modern Salem witch hunt fashion. On the other hand however, those individuals who decide to not live a secret life, are ridiculed and discriminated against; behavior like this in my opinion breeds more "closeted" gays. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” - Martin Luther King, Jr. Photo Credit: Google images (creative commons)
