Spring Cleaning.

Now that the Spring solstice is upon us, many of us will break out the Clorox, sweep under the area rugs and clear out closets of items we no longer wear. Getting your house together is wonderful, and I encourage you to replace the old with the new, but, what about your spiritual and mental spaces? Are you neglecting them? While many of us focus our attention on altering the outer, it’s a must that we clean out our inside spaces as well. Far too often we hold onto hurt, regret, pain and other volatile emotions. Although these feelings don’t hurt as intensely as they use to, the fact remains that you need to heal yourself and forgive yourself.

Mend Relations
During this time of renewal and growth I encourage you to reach out to old friends and acquaintances whom you often catch yourself day dreaming or inquiring about through a third party. Chances are they miss your company just as much as they miss yours. What we must remember is that change is the only constant variable in life. You are not the same person you were at sixteen, eighteen or even two weeks ago. You have encountered circumstances that have altered your perception. Make amends, if only to clear your conscious.

Forgive Yourself
We've all done things that our parents, religious leaders and most importantly ourselves would not approve of—its okay; it’s already been done. But have you forgiven yourself? So what you told a lie. So what you flashed spring breakers in panama. So what you had a baby out of wedlock…live moves on! Until you are able to hold yourself accountable and forgive yourself, how do you expect others to? Those dark spots in life built your character! The universe cannot forgive you, until you forgive you. Hold your head up, stick your chest out, look in the mirror and forgive yourself; heal yourself

Remember your worth
Admit it, you've settled. You've settled for that mediocre job you punch in and out of every day. You’ve settled for that forced relationship you’re in. You've even settled with not finishing projects you started but never completed. As much as I would like to tell you that its okay, and I understand that life got in the way…I won’t lie to you. You are greatness…you are above average…you are the relief for your own headache. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, stop making excuses to stay in your current situation—be the change you want to see.

Shake the Nay-Sayers
I get it, your support system doesn’t believe in your vision, they can’t appreciate your passion. Far too often you’ve heard “ Rapping won’t pay the bills”… “Modeling is not a guaranteed cash cow” … “The fashion industry is overpopulated; you’ll never make it.” Can I be blunt?—Screw them! Do you believe in you? Do you make constant strides to make useful connections? Do you constantly work to improve your craft? If you can honestly answer yes then you are already on the right track. You have one life to live with no reset button. Don’t live a life full of what if’s and shoulda, coulda, woulda’s. If your friends don’t support your dream; find other friends. Your parents don’t agree with your career aspirations? Remind them that it’s your life; they lived theirs. The tongue and the mind are powerful tools in the right hands. Dust off your imagination, time to create something distinctly yours.

Dear friend, freeing and forgiving yourself will not be easy. However, it will be worth it. I encourage you, I support you, I believe in you. It’s time that you believe in yourself. Until next time…

Lottery Ticket: a social experiment.

Rahat decided to give a lottery ticket to a homeless man. But, before handing it over, he gave a store clerk $1,000, and arranged for the clerk to pretend that it was a winning ticket and to give the cash to the homeless man.

There are plenty of inspiring moments in this video, but the one of these two hugging after the man offered to share his "prize" will hit you right in the heart.

Netflix Tech Support Scam

3/5/2014

According to an article in the Huffington Post, a new phishing scam targeting Netflix subscribers preys on our blind trust of customer service representatives when it comes to our personal information.

Users being targeted by the scam will see a phony webpage modeled after the Netflix login page. When a user enters Netflix account info, the scam site claims that the user's Netflix account has been suspended due to "unusual activity" and then provides a fake customer service number. When the user calls that number, a representative on the phone recommends a download of "Netflix support software," which is actually remote login software that gives the scammers complete access to your computer. The scammers may also ask for copies of photo IDs or credit cards. There are plenty of red flags here to warn customers that something is awry, but for those who are too trusting of the voice on the other end of the customer service line, check out Segura's video for highlights from the call.

A good rule to remember is to not be too trusting when it comes to giving out personal information. Avoid letting someone remotely control your computer, don't send pictures of your ID or credit cards over the Internet and be sure to double check URLs in the address bar of your browser. Also, anyone can look up the real Netflix customer service number and see that it doesn't match the scammers' number.

"Lindsay" premieres Sunday, March 9, at 10 p.m. ET on OWN.
The series was shot after 27-year-old Lohan completed her sixth stay in court-ordered rehab last year. In the premiere episode, the actress leaves the toxicity of Los Angeles behind for a clean slate in New York City. Lohan is strikingly candid and more determined than ever to get back on her feet. However, old habits die hard.

During filming of "Lindsay," Lohan backed out of scheduled shoots, didn't follow agreed-upon timelines and often frustrated the documentary crew. Oprah steps in for a frank conversation with Lohan.

"My truth is that I really do want you to win, I really do. If that isn't what you want, I'm OK with that," she tells Lohan. "I will tell [the crew] to pack up and leave today." - Oprah Winfrey to Lindsay Lohan

NFL to ban players from using N-word.

3/3/2014

The NFL Competition Committee has been meeting in Florida since Friday, and one of the items the eight men are debating is whether it should be a penalty if a player on the field uses the n-word. I am hearing it is unlikely a rule will be passed this year penalizing a player for using the n-word for the first time in a game. Three outcomes are possible:

1. The Competition Committee will urge that it be a point of emphasis for officials this year. When officials hear it, they would admonish players about it and do nothing else.

2. The committee will urge that offending players be warned if the word is used on the field during games. After a warning, a player with a second use could be penalized for using it, at the discretion of the officiating crew. I say “could be,” because the league could give officiating crews the option of throwing a flag, depending on the circumstances.

3. Nothing will change. Players will be allowed to use the word at will.

Seattle corner back Richard Sherman said:
Picture
“It’s an atrocious idea, It’s almost racist, to me. It’s weird they’re targeting one specific word. Why wouldn’t all curse words be banned then?”
Tennessee cornerback Jason McCourty feels:
Picture
“It’s a common word in so many players’ everyday lives, among African-American players and people, it’s used among friends all the time. It seems like a bit much for the NFL to try to get rid of it. It’s a pretty common word in the locker room, like ‘man,’ ‘bro,’ ‘nigga.’ But once a white person says it, it’s a derogatory term.”

Disney disses BSA.

AOL reports that The Walt Disney Company will cut funding to the Boy Scouts of America beginning in 2015 because of a policy that bans gay adult leaders in the organization.

The Boy Scouts organization is "disappointed" by the decision, which will affect the organization's ability to serve children, Deron Smith, a Boy Scouts spokesman, said in a statement Sunday. Disney does not provide direct funding to the Boy Scouts, but it donates money to some troops in exchange for volunteer hours completed by Disney employees, he said.

"We believe every child deserves the opportunity to be a part of the Scouting experience and we are disappointed in this decision because it will impact our ability to serve kids," he said.

David Jefferson, chief spokesman for The Walt Disney Company, did not respond to calls or emails.

Disney's decision came to light after the president of a local Boy Scout council based in Orlando, Fla., where Disney World is based, sent a memo alerting local troops to the decision.

The memo was posted on the website of Scouts for Equality, an organization that is critical of the Boy Scouts' policy to ban adult gay troop leaders.

The Boy Scouts lifted a ban on gay youth last year.
